In the Mindful Manifesto, we make six suggestions for practising mindfulness in our everyday lives.
1. Just ‘be’ for a while – focus your attention on what is happening in your body, in your mind, in the world around you – be inquisitive about whatever your experience is, and allow yourself to slow down enough to notice.
2. To help become fully aware of the remarkable experience of being alive, take some time every day to be mindful of your breath.
3. Practise being mindful of your body – reconnecting mind and body can allow us to experience a wholeness of being and help prevent and treat physical illness.
4. Notice and nurture your mind – by being mindful of your mind, you can train in living more happily, and help protect yourself from problems like depression and anxiety.
5. By working with emotions mindfully, we can begin to free ourselves from the bonds of addiction. The more we are mindful of our feelings, the more we can open up to the miracle of the moment.
6. Open your eyes and extend your awareness to take in the world arou.nd you – bring mindfulness into your daily life to become more skilful in your approach to every situation that arises.
